Flasks

Core

Flasks are active consumables that recharge as you kill — mastering them is core to survival.

What it is

Flasks in PoE are far more powerful than health potions in other games. They auto-refill as you kill monsters and can be used repeatedly in maps. Life and Mana Flasks provide instant recovery; Utility Flasks grant buffs (movement speed, resistances, ailment immunity, etc.). Flask mods make them significantly more powerful. End-game builds automate flask usage with triggers.

When you encounter it

Flasks are available from the very start in Act 1. Your five flask slots become relevant from level 1 onwards.

Key concepts

  • Life flasks come in tiers — always keep a high-tier flask for your character level
  • Utility Flasks (Quicksilver, Diamond, Jade, etc.) are often more important than extra life flasks
  • Flask suffixes: 'of Staunching' (stop bleed), 'of Warding' (remove curses), 'of Dousing' (remove ignite)
  • Flasks can have prefixes that increase the effect or recovery amount
  • Automation: the 'use when at X% life' mod or flasks with trigger enchants remove the need to manually press

Tips for new players

  • 💡Always have 5 flasks equipped and filled with high-level bases for your tier
  • 💡A Quicksilver Flask of Adrenaline (movement speed) makes maps dramatically more fun
  • 💡Match flask suffixes to the most dangerous ailments you face — Corrupted Blood, ignite, freeze are common killers
  • 💡At maps, you should have a Diamond Flask for currency farming or an Evasion flask if you're not capping resists
