Maps & Atlas

Endgame

The main endgame loop — run maps to progress your Atlas and unlock harder content.

What it is

Maps are the primary endgame activity in Path of Exile. After finishing Act 10, you enter the Atlas of Worlds — a network of interconnected maps you run over and over, progressing from Tier 1 (easy) up to Tier 16+ (very hard). Each map is an item you put into your Map Device. The Atlas Passive Tree lets you specialize into specific mechanics or map types.

When you encounter it

You receive your first map from Kirac near the end of Act 10. Your hideout gets a Map Device. The Atlas opens up fully once you complete the campaign.

Key concepts

  • Maps have tiers (1–16+) — higher tiers drop better loot
  • Map mods (added by Orbs of Alchemy, Chisels) increase quantity/rarity but also difficulty
  • Completing a map for the first time gives Atlas completion bonuses
  • The Atlas Passive Tree has points you earn by completing maps — invest in mechanics you enjoy
  • Watchstones / Voidstones (depending on expansion) increase the tier of maps that drop

Tips for new players

  • 💡Don't skip maps — running lower tiers is fine while you gear up
  • 💡Use an Orb of Alchemy on each map before running it for better loot
  • 💡Pick one or two Atlas passive strategies at first (e.g. Breach + Expedition) instead of spreading points everywhere
  • 💡If a map mod says 'Cannot Regenerate Life' and you're not using flasks actively, roll it off with an Orb of Alteration
