Passive Skill Tree

A massive web of passive nodes that defines your character's stats — you pick a starting class then branch out.

What it is

The Passive Skill Tree is a huge web of 1,500+ passive nodes that every character shares, but each class starts in a different corner. You gain one point per level (plus more from quests). Nodes give things like +10 Strength, 12% increased Life, or powerful notable passives. Keystones are unique game-changing nodes like Acrobatics (high dodge, no armour) or Mind Over Matter.

When you encounter it

Available from character creation. Press 'P' to open it at any time.

Key concepts

  • Your starting position (class) determines which nodes you can easily reach early
  • Notable passives are named nodes with significant effects — build around them
  • Keystones fundamentally change how your character works
  • Jewel sockets allow Passive Jewels to modify your tree
  • Respeccing (Orbs of Regret) is possible but expensive — plan your tree on Path of Building

Tips for new players

  • 💡Always follow a guide's tree or plan in PoB before spending points — respecs are costly
  • 💡Life, damage, and resists are the three main things to prioritize on the tree
  • 💡Don't try to reach nodes far from your starting area early — the cost in points is too high
  • 💡Jewel sockets near your path can be very efficient — check what jewels are available on the trade site
